Multi-Day Fly Fishing on the Collón Cura River

Broad valleys, willow-lined channels and nights beside the river on a guided expedition through the Patagonian steppe.

The Collón Cura River offers a different setting from the forested waters west of Bariloche. Its broad valley, islands and willow-lined banks open into the Patagonian steppe. A multi-day fly fishing trip lets you follow that landscape and spend the night beside the river instead of returning to town after each session.

Fishing a river with many channels

Formed by the meeting of the Aluminé and Chimehuín rivers, the Collón Cura flows toward the Piedra del Águila reservoir. Its changing currents and side channels offer varied water for brown and rainbow trout. River levels and available food guide the choice of flies and presentations.

During our guided fishing expeditions, the boat connects different stretches, with opportunities to stop and wade when conditions allow. Your Southern Rivers guide helps decide when to keep moving and when a piece of water deserves more attention.

Camping as part of the journey

The camp crew travels ahead to organize the overnight stop and meals. Read our guide to fishing trips with riverside camps for an introduction to the tents, equipment and daily rhythm.

The experience differs from a single day on the Limay River: you carry the journey forward over several days. If you are comparing expedition destinations, the Caleufú River offers another landscape and a different operating window.

For accommodation around the expedition, our all-inclusive programs can help coordinate the wider stay. Comparing fishing lodges and hotels in Bariloche is a useful next step.

Tell us your dates, available nights and fishing experience. Before traveling, we will discuss the route and personal items to pack for your time on the river.
