A full day on the Limay gives you time to settle into the fishing. With Southern Rivers Patagonia, we float a section selected for the conditions, work promising water and stop to wade where the river allows.
Brown and rainbow trout are the main focus. Your guide reads the current, chooses the flies and adapts the approach to your experience, whether you are learning your first cast or refining a familiar technique.
Lunch is part of the day: a pause on the riverbank for Argentine food, good conversation and the landscape. Then it is back to the water for the afternoon before returning to your accommodation in Bariloche.

From your accommodation to the river
How your day unfolds.
We organize the transfers, equipment and fishing, so you can settle into the experience.

Pickup at your accommodation
Your guide picks you up in Bariloche at 8:00 a.m., and we head toward the Limay River.
- Around 9:30–10:00 AM
The morning on the river
We begin our float and work the best pools and runs before lunch. Your guide will help with technique, fly selection, and boat positioning. Instruction is always part of the trip whenever you need it.

Riverside lunch
We take a break for appetizers, premium Argentine grilled beef, fresh salads, and dessert, accompanied by Malbec wine. Please let us know in advance about any dietary requirements.

More fishing and the return to Bariloche
After lunch, we get back on the water and normally continue fishing until approximately 5:00 p.m. Your guide then drives you back to your accommodation in the city.

What is the difference from the half-day trip?
A full-day trip gives you time on the water both morning and afternoon, along with a hearty Argentine lunch served riverside. The half-day option focuses on the morning and includes a snack instead of lunch.
Do we fish from a boat or wade?
We float the river and stop at suitable wading spots when conditions allow. The mix depends on the river level, chosen stretch and your preferences.
Is this trip suitable for beginners?

When is the best time to target migratory brown trout?
The fall season—especially April and May—is the prime period for targeting large migratory brown trout on the Limay River. As water temperatures drop, these fish move up from Lake Nahuel Huapi into the river, creating opportunities to encounter some truly impressive specimens. It is a technical fishery that rewards patience, precise presentations, and the ability to read the water. Our guides adjust the approach and tactics each day to make the most of every opportunity.
